Due to public comments received and stakeholder feedback about CMS’ discharge planning proposal from late 2015, CMS has determined “there are significant policy issues that need to be resolved” and there is a need to coordinate with another government agency.
As a result, CMS says in an Oct. 30 item on the Federal Register, it couldn’t meet its three-year timeline to publish the “Medicare and Medicaid Program; Revisions to Requirements for Discharge Planning for Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, and Home Health Agencies” final rule. "In this case, the complexity of the rule and scope of public comments warrants the extension of the timeline for publication."
It’s extending the timeline by one year — until Nov. 3, 2019.
