PDGM – Financial Management and Planning.

Part 1: How did we get here? and Where are we going?

We will briefly review the changes in home health regulations/reimbursement and what caused these changes to arise. We will follow-up with a brief overview of the current PPS; the Pro’s and Con’s; all of which will lead us to our discussion of PDGM. In our discussion of PDGM, we will learn more about the significant changes; especially from a regulatory and reimbursement perspective as well as what the perceived intent is of CMS. The better we understand the rationale of CMS, MedPac and Congress for these changes, the better we will be able to operate in this new reimbursement environment and prepare for other unidentified changes still to come.

After this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify the significant differences between PPS and PDGM
  • Explain the CMS rationale for the change to PDGM
  • Analyze and criticize proposed rules from CMS
  • Build a plan to financially manage their agency under PDGM

Part 2: How to survive, even thrive under PDGM

This presentation will build on what was discussed during our first presentation. Based on our new understanding of PDGM, attendees will be exposed to various financial changes that will occur impacting Medicare revenue. Attendees will also be given insights and examples of various financial fundamentals that would help improve their financial outcomes in both the short-term and the long-term.

After this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify key reimbursement changes impacting Medicare Revenue
  • Develop internal financial/operational best practices for operating under PDGM.
  • Differentiate between activities that provide assistance with these changes vs those that do not.
  • Evaluate whether or not their current operations/procedures are proper for operating under PDGM.
  • And develop financial/operational best practices to help their agency survive PDGM, if not thrive, in this new reimbursement environment.
